The Electrical Safety Inspection Checklist on the Tech's Phone

A paper inspection form works until it gets wet, lost under a seat or filled out in three different handwritings. Then the office has to decipher it, type it up and hope nothing was missed. ElectricalBossPro puts the electrical safety inspection checklist on the tech's phone, inside the job, so what the tech records is what the office sees.

The Checklist Uses What Is on the House

The checklist works hand in hand with the equipment records described in Transfer Switches and Interlocks: Keeping the Whole Backup Setup on the Property Record. The job card shows the panel, generator, transfer switch, surge protector and EV charger at the house, and the checklist has a line for each kind of equipment.

The tech opens the job in the tech app, taps Start, and works through the checklist as they go. Nothing to download separately and no separate form app to open.

What Is on the Checklist

The ElectricalBossPro safety inspection checklist covers the items most residential inspections look at:

How the tech checks each item is up to the tech and your company's way of working. The software does not tell anyone how to inspect a panel. It records that the item was looked at, and what was found.

Readings, Condition and Recommendations

Below the checklist, the tech records readings: voltage L1-N, L2-N and L1-L2, main breaker amps, measured load, ground resistance, panel age, the hottest spot from an IR scan, and issues found. Then they set an overall condition, Good, Needs attention or Repair recommended, and write recommendations in plain language.

The readings are covered in detail in Recording Inspection Readings: Voltage, Main Breaker Amps, Load and the Hottest Spot, and writing conditions that homeowners understand in Good, Needs Attention, Repair Recommended: Writing Conditions Homeowners Understand.

Same Checklist, Every Tech

One of the quiet benefits of a checklist on the phone is consistency. Every tech works the same list at every house. A new tech on their third week runs the same inspection as the owner who has done hundreds. Nothing gets skipped because someone forgot it was on the form, and the office does not get one tech's inspections in a different format from another's.

That consistency matters for a yearly plan. When the customer compares this year's report to last year's, the same items are there, in the same order. Changes stand out.

It also makes training simpler. Instead of handing a new hire a stack of old forms and hoping they pick up the pattern, you ride along for a few inspections and let them work the list on their own phone. The checklist is the same list every time, so what they learn on day one is what they use on day one hundred.

Photos and Notes Alongside

The checklist is not the only thing the tech captures. Before and after photos can be taken in the tech app and saved with the job, so a photo of a panel label or a worn exterior outlet cover stays attached to that inspection. Job notes carry anything the checklist does not, like “homeowner asked about adding an outlet in the garage.”

All of it lands on the job together. When the next tech opens a job at that house next year, the past notes are on the card.

What the Office Gets

The moment the tech saves the checklist, the office sees it on the job. No typing up paper forms at the end of the day. The office can print the Electrical Safety Inspection report for the homeowner, with the checklist, readings, condition and recommendations laid out. If the tech recommended work, the office can build an estimate from the service list right away.

When the tech taps Complete, the invoice is created and the card on file can be charged. The yearly plan resets, and the next inspection comes due in 365 days on the Waiting List.

The checklist is the core of what makes an inspection plan worth paying for, and it runs on the phones your techs already carry. For how it fits with plans, records and billing, go back to the ElectricalBossPro generator maintenance software page.
