Before-and-After Photos From the Electrical Tech's Phone
Most electrical work disappears when the job is done. The new breaker sits behind a panel cover. The wiring goes back inside the wall. The homeowner sees a cover plate, a light that works and an invoice. Photos are how they, and your office, see what the tech actually did.
Photos Taken in the App Stay With the Job
Photos make recommendations easier to understand, as covered in Condition and Recommendations: Turning the Tech's Findings Into a Report the Homeowner Reads. They do a lot more than that, too.
In the ElectricalBossPro tech app, photos are taken right from the job. They save to that job, at that house, under the tech who took them. Nobody has to text them to the office, find them in a camera roll later or remember which house they were from. When the office opens the job, the photos are there.
What to Photograph on Different Calls
Every shop develops its own habits, but a few are worth starting with:
- Service calls. The problem as found and the finished repair. The scorched outlet before, the new device after.
- Safety inspections. The panel with the cover off, the breaker directory, anything listed in issues found.
- Panel upgrades. The old panel before work starts and the finished panel with the directory filled in.
- EV charger installs. The mounting spot before and the finished install after, from where the homeowner will see it.
- Generator visits. The nameplate, the transfer switch and the unit after maintenance.
- Lighting work. The room or parking lot before and after, ideally from the same spot.
Before Photos Protect You
A before photo is a record of what you walked into. If a homeowner later says the drywall was fine before your tech arrived, or that the panel looked different, the photo answers it. If a property manager questions whether a fixture was already broken, the photo shows it.
Before photos matter even more on commercial and rental work, where the person who calls you is often not the person who lives or works in the space. A property manager three towns away cannot see what your tech saw when they walked into the unit. The photo on the job lets them see it without a site visit of their own, and it answers the tenant's version of events before anyone has to argue about it.
Make it a habit: tap Start, take the before photo, then begin the work. It takes a few seconds and saves arguments that could take hours.
After Photos Sell the Work
An after photo shows the homeowner what they paid for. A clean panel with a typed directory, a neatly mounted EV charger, a bright new set of recessed lights. Those photos are worth more than any description on an invoice.
They are also useful for your business. A photo of a finished install can go on your website or in a social post, with the customer's permission and nothing that identifies their house. A stack of good after photos is the best portfolio a small electrical shop can have.
Photos Make the Equipment Record Better
One of the most useful photos on any call is the equipment label. The panel's data label, the generator nameplate, the EV charger's data plate. With a photo on the job, the office can fill in the brand, model and serial in the equipment record on the house without asking the tech to type anything on site.
That record then shows on every future job card at that address, which is covered in Panel, Generator and EV Charger Details on the Electrician App Job Card.
Taking Good Photos Quickly
Photos only help if they are clear. A few quick habits:
- Use the phone's flashlight or a work light in dark panels, attics and basements.
- Step back for one wide shot so the location is obvious, then get close for the detail.
- Hold still for a second before tapping. Blurry photos are not much better than no photos.
- Take the after photo from the same spot as the before photo whenever you can.
Nobody needs twenty photos of an outlet swap. Two or three good ones are plenty.
The Office Side
When the tech taps Complete, the office sees the job done with its photos attached, along with the notes and any checklist. If a customer calls with a question, the office can look at exactly what the tech saw before answering. If a callback comes in, the next tech can see the finished work before going back.
Photos are one of those features that seem small until the first time one saves you an argument. To see photos alongside the rest of the tech app, visit the ElectricalBossPro electrician app page.
