Crew GPS on the Office Map: Knowing Where Every Electrical Van Is

A homeowner calls at 11am. Half the house lost power and they have a freezer full of food. The office looks at the board and sees three vans out. Which one is closest? Without crew GPS, the answer takes three phone calls, each one interrupting a tech in the middle of a job. With it, the answer is on the map.

Crew Locations on the Office Map

The time clock, covered in The Time Clock in the Electrician App, tells you when the crew is working. Crew GPS tells you where.

In ElectricalBossPro, techs signed in to the tech app show up on the office map. The office can see each tech's location alongside the day's calls, so it can tell at a glance which van is near which address. The tech does not have to do anything beyond having the app open with location turned on.

Dispatching Emergency and Same-Day Calls

Electrical contractors get more urgent calls than most service trades. No power to part of the house. A breaker that will not reset. Something that smells hot. A property manager with a store that cannot open. Those calls need to go to the right van fast.

With crew GPS, the office looks at the map, sees which tech is closest and how far along their route they are, and drops the new call onto that van's list on the dispatch board. The tech's phone updates. The office can text the tech a heads-up if needed, but nobody has to call around asking where everyone is.

Better Answers for Customers

Customers ask “when will the electrician be here?” constantly. With crew GPS and the call list in front of them, the office can give a real answer: “He's finishing a job about ten minutes from you, and you're next.” That is a much better answer than “sometime this afternoon.”

Customers also see some of this themselves. The customer app shows a live map of today's route with their place in line, so many of them will not need to call at all.

Planning Tomorrow From Today

Crew GPS is not just for emergencies. Watching how vans move through a day helps the office plan better days. If one van keeps crossing town twice, the route order or the van assignments might need a rethink. If the install van and the service van keep ending up in the same neighborhood, there may be a better split.

The dispatch board makes those adjustments easy: filter by van, auto-route Closest First or Furthest First from the shop, set the route order by hand where needed and save the view. The GPS shows you where the plan and reality differ.

Talking to Your Crew About GPS

Some techs will hear “GPS” and think “the boss is watching me.” It is worth addressing that directly when you roll it out. Explain what it is for:

Most techs come around quickly once they notice the phone ringing less. Rolling out the app in general is covered in Getting Your Electricians to Actually Use the App.

GPS Plus Start and Complete

On its own, a dot on a map tells you where a van is. Combined with Start and Complete on each call, it tells you what the van is doing. The office can see a tech at an address with a call started and know the work is underway. It can see a call completed and the van moving and know the next customer just got their on-the-way text.

That combination is what turns the office map into a live picture of the day. The owner can check it from anywhere and know exactly how things are going without picking up the phone.

Know Where Everyone Is

For a shop running two, three or five vans, crew GPS is one of the features that pays for itself the first time an emergency call comes in. The right van gets the call, the customer gets a real answer, and nobody's job gets interrupted to find out.
