The Customer App: What the Homeowner Sees While Your Electrician Is on the Way

Everything in this series so far has been about the tech's phone. But every tap the tech makes shows up somewhere for the homeowner too. When the tech taps Complete at the house before theirs, the homeowner's app knows. When the tech arrives, the homeowner gets a text. The customer app is the other half of the tech app, and it is worth knowing what it looks like from the homeowner's side.

The Same Day, From the Other Side

Multi-location accounts, covered in Property Manager, Gym and Retail Stops in the Electrician App, often have someone who is not on site. Homeowners usually are, and they want to know when the electrician is coming.

The ElectricalBossPro customer app gives them that. It shows today's route on a live map with their place in line: “You're stop 4 of 7 — the tech is 2 stops away.” As the tech completes calls ahead of them, the count goes down. No guessing, no calling the office to ask.

Alerts the Homeowner Chooses

Homeowners pick which alerts they want:

These line up with the automatic texts the tech app sends, covered in Automatic On-the-Way Texts From the Electrician App. The homeowner controls how much they hear, so the texts stay helpful.

Requesting Service

Homeowners can request service from the customer app. The flickering light in the kitchen, the outlet that stopped working, a question about adding an EV charger. The request comes into your office, where you can schedule a call or start an estimate. Customers who already have the app tend to come back to it rather than searching for another electrician.

A request in writing is also easier for your office to handle than a voicemail. The homeowner describes the problem in their own words, the office reads it once, and the tech sees the description on the job card when the call is scheduled. Anything technical gets sorted out by your electrician on site, which is exactly where it belongs.

Signing Up for Plans

The customer app lets homeowners sign up for services and pricing you offer. A yearly generator maintenance plan, a yearly electrical safety inspection, whatever recurring service you set up. When they sign up, the visits come due on your Waiting List on their own, based on the plan's minimum days between visits.

That turns one-time customers into recurring ones without a sales call. A homeowner who had you install a generator can sign up for yearly maintenance from their couch.

Cards, Invoices and Paying Online

The billing side lives in the customer app too:

That pairs with the card-on-file charge at completion. Customers who prefer to pay manually can, and customers on auto-pay can see exactly what they were charged for.

Ratings and Referrals

After the work is done, the customer app lets homeowners rate their visit and refer friends. For an electrical contractor, word of mouth is often the best source of new work. Making it easy for a happy customer to pass your name along, right after a good visit, is a simple way to get more of it.

Why the Tech's Habits Matter to the Customer

The customer app only shows what the tech app records. If the tech works the route in order and taps Start and Complete at the right moments, the live map is accurate, the “when I'm next” alert arrives at the right time, and the invoice shows up the minute the work is done. If the tech forgets to tap Complete until the end of the day, the homeowner's map stops making sense.

That is a good point to make to your crew: their taps are what the customer sees. Good habits on the tech side are good customer service.

Two Apps, One Visit

From the homeowner's side, a well-run electrical visit looks like this: a reminder the night before, a map that shows the van getting closer, a text when the tech arrives, an invoice when the work is done and a paid receipt before the van is out of sight. To see the tech side that makes all of that happen, visit the ElectricalBossPro electrician app page.
